- To: ALL From: SYSTEM OPERATOR
- Subject: LaserBoard
- Just spoke to both Tony Oppenheim (NYMUG BBS Sysop) and Scott Watson
- (writer of Red Ryder and RR Host)...
-
- 1) There may well be a possibility of having two lines with RR Host. Add
- another Mac, MacServe, and a second modem. One line would be for
- everything; the other would be for downloading and for reading text files
- only...no mail, in other words, on the second line. The primary line
- would stay at 2400...the second would be 9600. Our costs would be
- reasonable enough to consider this over the conversion to an AT,
- particularly with the time saving of not having to send all files to a Mac
- to test them.
-
- 2) Meanwhile, Scott affirms that he IS working on a follow-up program to
- Host, something with a price of less than $100, and to be released during
- 1987, if at all possible. He also stated that he may begin work on a UNIX
- based system for the potential Paris, but this is only something for the
- distant future. Meanwhile, he hopes to get the current Host operational
- with the new 9600HST USR modem, which both of us have on order at this
- point.
-
- 3) Scott made some suggestions regarding the 2400E and Host...sounded good
- but didn't work. Must be a problem in either the cable or the modem, but
- if so, I can't find it yet.
-
- IMPORTANT PART OF MESSAGE - If we get a second line, second Mac, second
- modem, all working off the same LaserBoard...how would people feel about a
- higher membership fee, probably something in the area of $25? Does the
- second line make this worthwhile, or is a BBS not something on which you
- would want to spend $25 in any event. I realize that the CIS/GEnie users
- pay that much each month (if not more), but what about the occasional
- users...is the difference in calling convenience worth the added bucks?
